Prophets

(The Lord said to Moses,) So when I want to speak to them, I will choose one of them to be a prophet like you. I will give my message to that prophet, who will tell the people exactly what I have said. ~ Deuteronomy 18:18 (CEV)

In the past God spoke to our people through the prophets. He spoke to them many times and in many different ways. And now in these last days, God has spoken to us again through his Son. ~ Hebrews 1:1–2a (ERV)
Lord, if we are patient enough we can expect to hear from you. Your messenger shows up with your message just when we need it. And the best messenger is also the message. I confess that I'm often looking for something new from you -- something that will provide me with a short-cut through pain or work. It's silly. But that is the way my mind works sometimes. Forgive me. And remind me that we already have the most complete version of your message possible. That message is your Son Jesus. Please help me to stay focused on him so that I can continue to pass along the message through what I say and how I live. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
