Secrets

Sometimes, God, I fool myself into thinking that secrets will remain secrets. But somewhere, sometime, in someway, the secret seeds we plant grow into large obvious weeds. Save me from my sins AND also from the illusion that I control the outcomes -- that I can hide what I think and do. From you there are no secrets. But because of the sacrifice of your Son Jesus I don't have to carry secrets anymore. I am trusting that you will take what you already know to be true, redeem it all for good, and turn me around so that I am walking solely in step with you. I am going to assume that you are doing this and that I can walk about today without shame weighing me down. I feel like the secret weight is off my back. Amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul. The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
