No fear

You will be safe from those who would hurt you, so you will have nothing to fear. Nothing will come to make you afraid. ~ Isaiah 54:14b (NCV)

Jesus' followers went to him and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We will drown!”
Jesus answered, “Why are you afraid? You don’t have enough faith.” Then Jesus got up and gave a command to the wind and the waves, and it became completely calm.
~ Matthew 8:25–26 (NCV)
Lord, I often feel like I'm drowning. I feel overwhelmed by the problems. I'm afraid that I can't get my job done right. I'm afraid that I have a horrible disease. I'm afraid that I won't have enough money. I'm afraid that people will break into my house and steal my things -- or worse. There are lots of fears in my life. And when I let those fears take charge of my mind I'm denying that you are present with us in the boat. I don't want to do that. I want to live a life fully aware of your presence and your power to calm storms. Help me to relax and to focus on you rather than the problems. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
