Persistence

The Lord God is waiting to show how kind he is and to have pity on you. ~ Isaiah 30:18 (CEV)

Listen! I am standing and knocking at your door. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and we will eat together. ~ Revelation 3:20 (CEV)
Lord Jesus, I am amazed at your persistence in pursuing a relationship with us. Yet, we often put you off for later. Even so, you still stand at the door waiting to be let in for ongoing fellowship. I want to be more receptive to your kindness and persistence. But I have a very short attention span and need lots of reminders that you're there. And I am frustrated by my own inattention. Please keep knocking throughout the day. I need to hear you calling over and over again. Speak through others. Speak through the wind and the rain. Speak through your written Word. Just don't give up on me. I need to be eating every meal with you. That is what I long to do. Amen.
Challenging Words
  • persistence-- when you continue to do something without giving up
  • attention span -- the amount of time that you can focus on something. The length of time that you can concentrate or think about someone or some project.
  • inattention -- distraction, lack of attention, not really watching or listening
