Prophets

I wish the Lord would give his Spirit to all his people so everyone could be a prophet. ~ Numbers 11:29b (CEV)

Let love be your highest goal! But you should also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives—especially the ability to prophesy... But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them. ~ 1 Corinthians 14:1, 3 (NLT)
Lord, you have poured your Holy Spirit out onto the church. You have given special abilities to Jesus' people -- abilities that strengthen others. I'm a part of Jesus' church so I must be gifted, too. Lord, I desire to speak your message so that others would be moved to do what you want -- and to find comfort in what you want. Please forgive me for thinking that I'm not the kind of person the Spirit could speak through. Thank you for including us ordinary people in your mission. Help me to be sensitive to your Spirit today so that I know what to say, when to say it, and to whom to speak. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
