Your words show what is in your hearts. Good people bring good things out of their hearts... ~ Matthew 12:34b–35a (CEV)
Dear Lord, I can't hide what is in my heart. But sometimes I am so close to the situation that I don't realize what is showing. I think that I'm speaking kind words -- but really -- I'm harsh. I think that I'm joyful -- but really -- I'm not much fun to be around. When these things are pointed out, the temptation is to try to fix my words and behaviors without addressing the real problem which is inside me. Lord, I am depending on you to complete the heart transplant that is going to make me a mirror of your light, grace, and love. I am eagerly anticipating the transformation. And I am ready to cooperate with your Holy Spirit who is applying your life-changing word to my heart. And that brings a genuine smile to my face. Amen.Challenging Words
- harsh -- rough, abrasive, not gentle, not kind
- heart transplant -- medical operation in which a surgeon takes out the old heart and puts in a new healthy heart. In this context the operation is a metaphor for the spiritual change that takes place in your life when you invite Jesus into your "heart." This is not talking about a literal heart made from flesh and muscle. In the Bible the heart is the center of one's affection and decision making.
- transformation -- change
