Comfort

The Lord God will wipe tears from every face... ~ Isaiah 25:8 (part/CEB)

May the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ be blessed! He is the compassionate Father and God of all comfort. He’s the one who comforts us in all our trouble... ~ 2 Corinthians 1:3–4a (CEB)
Heavenly Father, your kindness and mercy are unlimited. You care about the big hurts of the whole world and the little hurts in our lives. You sent your Son to set us free from the power of tears. Sometimes, though, I try to find comfort for my pain in unhealthy places. Even though I know that you are full of comfort I am easily pulled into false-comforts. I eat too much. I drink too much. I wallow in desire. I buy things I don't really need. These are all shallow distractions that keep me from finding comfort in you -- the God of all comfort. Be merciful and compassionate toward me. I'm not just seeking forgiveness but I would be willing to work with you if you'd change me. Transform me into a person who rests in only you. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
