The Lord hears
This poor man called out, and the Lord heard him.
He saved him out of all his troubles. ~ Psalm 34:6 (NIRV)
A man in the crowd called out. “Teacher,” he said, “I beg you to look at my son. He is my only child. ~ Luke 9:38 (NIRV)
Lord, over and over again in the Bible people call out to you and you listen to them. We don't do such a good job listening to you. So, it is good that you hear so well. When we call to you, you respond and rescue us from the problems we have created. I'm grateful that you pay attention to us -- even though we have nothing of value to offer to you. We're poor. But you are rich and generous with your kindness. It's all a welcome mystery to me. I'll accept it. You can expect to hear more from me. Amen.
*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul. The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
