Humble God

Look, your king will come to you. He is righteous and victorious. He is humble and riding on an ass... ~ Zechariah 9:9 (CEB)

Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, Christ Jesus gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave... ~ Philippians 2:6-7 (NLT)
Loving God, thank you for entering into the world as a humble slave of those who should be your slaves. You lowered yourself in order to serve us. That is your humble style -- a style which I need to more fully embrace. Help me to imitate your humility. I want to be like you! Amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
