Strong and Steady

God always gives you all the grace you need. So you will only have to suffer for a little while. Then God himself will build you up again. He will make you strong and steady. ~ 1 Peter 5:10 (NIRV)
Lord, you have promised to stay with your people. You will not abandon us. Forgive me for my impatience when things are not going right. I like to think of myself as going it alone -- even though I am not at all alone. But it is good that you are there. In spite of my fantasy I can't really be strong and steady on my own. You are the one who steadies and strengthens me. I'm going to run with that. amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul. The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
