No magic

Don’t practice any kind of evil magic at all. Don’t use magic to try to explain the meaning of warnings in the sky or of any other signs. Don’t take part in worshiping evil powers... The Lord your God hates it when anyone does these things. ~ Deuteronomy 18:10, 12 (NIRV)

They claim to be wise, but they are fools. They don’t worship the glorious and eternal God. Instead, they worship idols... ~ Romans 1:22-23 (CEV)
Lord, there are so many beings and powers trying to take your place. They offer solutions based on magic or secret signs they've created. Sometimes they even craft idols to become the focus of our attention. But you don't want us to have anything to do with such things -- with the wimpy impostors. I confess that these competing voices occasionally get my attention. And I become afraid. Help me to ignore the spirits. They don't deserve my attention. They don't even deserve my fear. Only you -- and you alone -- are worthy of my attention. For you are the glorious and eternal God. I pray in the name of Jesus, the Son. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
