Only God

No one is holy like the Lord— no, no one except you! There is no rock like our God! ~ 1 Samuel 2:2 (CEB)

Now to the king of the ages, to the immortal, invisible, and only God, may honor and glory be given to him forever and always! Amen. ~ 1 Timothy 1:17 (CEB)
There is no being like you, God. You have no peers. No one else is without beginning or end. No one else is as rock solid as you. You alone are worthy of our attention and worship. Forgive me for paying attention to usurpers. Clear my head so that I can continue to recognize you as not only the king over all that exists -- but as king over my life -- my thoughts and my actions. I want everything to bring honor and glory to you. Amen.
Challenging Word
  • usurper -- someone who wrongfully tries to sit on the king's throne, someone who tries to take on authority that is not rightfully his

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
