New creation

I will remove the stony hearts from their bodies and give them hearts of flesh so that they may follow my regulations and carefully observe my case laws. ~ Ezekiel 11:19-20 (CEB)

So then, if anyone is in Christ, that person is part of the new creation. The old things have gone away, and look, new things have arrived! ~ 2 Corinthians 5:17 (CEB)
Dear God, 
THANKS: You have not given up on us. I'm thankful that you are still working to make us new. Thank you, too, for the gift of new life that comes when we are connected with Christ. 
REGRET: I confess that my heart is sometimes hard and that I'm too willing to accept the old status quo -- the way that things have been and are. You are renewing all of creation but I'm really slow to change with the times. 
INTERCESSION: I need your ongoing help to leave the old ways behind. I'm eager to do that but in need of an energy boost. 
PURPOSE: I am, however, going to move forward, acting as though the new creation has fully taken hold in my life. I'm going to trust that you'll soften heart so that as I do move forward, the new creation will come to define my life. 
In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
