No worries
Worry weighs us down; a cheerful word picks us up. ~ Proverbs 12:25 (MSG)
Let your gentleness show in your treatment of all people. The Lord is near. ~ Philippians 4:5 (CEB)
Kind and powerful God,
THANKS: I'm thankful that you are never far away. You are close by and raising people up through your kindness.
REGRET: I worry too much. And I worry because it makes me feel important -- like I'm in charge -- and that I can actually control the situations over which I worry.
INTERCESSION: Help me to realize how little power I have. Help me to enjoy the freedom that comes with lacking power. And help me to treat everyone with the kind of gentleness that comes from knowing how powerless I am.
PURPOSE: I refuse to worry about things over which I have no control. You are powerful and you'll give me the words to cheer others up. I'm no longer going to drag myself or others down by focusing on worrisome events.
Amen.
*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul. The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
