Pursue righteousness

Righteousness! Pursue righteousness so that you live long and take possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving you. ~ Deuteronomy 16:20 (CEB)

Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. ~ 1 Timothy 6:11b (NLT)
Lord, 
THANKS: You are the master of righteousness and justice. No one can do it like us -- unless that are with you and you are with them. Thank you for being with us and letting us participate in your mission to fill the world with your justice and righteousness.
REGRETS: While righteousness and justice are important to me they are not as important to me as they are to you.
INTERCESSION: I would really like to have a passion for these things become a part of my DNA -- the core that makes me who I am. I would love to have a godly life. But I can't make it happen on my own. I don't have enough of what it takes.
PURPOSE: I'm envisioning a just, righteous, and godly life -- a life filled with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. That last idea is especially attractive to me -- righteous and gentle. What a combination! That is what I'm aiming for.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.
