What kind of leader are you?

Everyone wants to get richer and richer, from the least important of them to the most important. Prophets and priests alike try to fool everyone they can. They bandage the wounds of my people as if they were not very deep. ‘Peace, peace,’ they say. But there isn’t any peace. ~ Jeremiah 6:13-14 (NIRV)

Paul wrote: ...I’m not looking out for what is good for me. I’m looking out for the interests of others. I do it so that they might be saved. ~ 1 Corinthians 10:33b (NIRV)
Lord, you have called me to be a leader. I may not have a big leadership responsibility. And that's okay. Even if my influence is only among a few friends and in my family -- that's still okay. Help me to take the responsibility seriously and to be more concerned about the people in my life than myself. I can be pretty selfish. But you already know that. Thank you for helping me make progress toward being less self-focused. I need to develop more focus and concern for the well-being of others. Turn my heart so that I'm both truthful and caring. I want to lead others to you so my life needs to clearly reflect your salvation. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
