Anticipating

We are here for only a moment, visitors and strangers in the land as our ancestors were before us. Our days on earth are like a passing shadow, gone so soon without a trace. ~ 1 Chronicles 29:15 (NLT)

On this earth we don’t have a city that lasts forever, but we are waiting for such a city. ~ Hebrews 13:14 CEV)
Lord, this explains why I feel so unsettled so much of the time. Maybe it's a good thing that I feel like a stranger. That feeling reminds me that there is more to come. Thank you for planning such a wonderful future. I confess, though, that I work too hard at trying to settle down. Even though I know that I live in transition, I pretend that I can make everything permanent and lasting. I'm so silly. Please help me realize the bigger picture of what you are doing. While I want to live in the present moment, please save me from getting stuck in the present moment. I'm going to enjoying the act of waiting. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
