Honor and shame

Fear not; you will no longer live in shame. ~ Isaiah 54:4a (NLT)

But suppose you suffer for being a Christian. Then don’t be ashamed. Instead, praise God because you are known by the name of Christ. ~ 1 Peter 4:16 (NIRV)
Glory be to you, Heavenly Father! Through the sacrifice of your Son Christ Jesus, you have removed the shame from my life. Even if I end up suffering because I'm one of his people there is absolutely no shame in that. You have removed all the shame and all the potential shame. Sometimes I start to think shameful thoughts about myself. But I am trusting you. Help me to honor you instead of wallowing in unfounded shame. I'm going to move forward as someone who is known by the name of Christ. And this is good -- something to be pround of. Amen!
CHALLENGING WORDS:
  • wallowing -- to sit in something -- to roll around in it -- to enjoy being in it. Pigs wallow in mud and their own waste.
  • unfounded -- lacking in fact -- If someone accuses you of wrongdoing but there are no facts to prove the assertion, the accusation is unfounded.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
