Power and hope

God has the power to help you or destroy you. ~ 2 Chronicles 25:8b (NIRV)

 Christ Jesus is our hope. ~ 1 Timothy 1:1b
God, you have the power to help or destroy us. I'm so thankful that you have chosen to help. You are our hope. You are the one that I'm counting on. Even though I am an imperfect person with lots of flaws, I do have enough sense to know that I have to put my hope in you. Thank you for giving me that opportunity. And please continue to show me what that hope means. That is, transform me into a lighthouse that powerfully shines your hope. Amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
