Responsiveness

Lord, you always do what is right. But we are covered with shame today. ~ Daniel 9:7a (NIRV)

Jesus said, I will tell you a story about a man who had two sons. Then you can tell me what you think. The father went to the older son and said, “Go work in the vineyard today!” His son told him that he would not do it, but later he changed his mind and went. ~ Matthew 21:28-29 (CEV)
Father,

THANKS: I'm grateful that you allow us to change our minds in order to do what is right.

REGRETS: I admit, though, that I'm slow to change. And I shame you when I do not do what you ask in the first place. I know that you're always right but I still try to do things my way. I don't understand why I do that. It doesn't make sense to me.

INTERCESSION: Create in me an eagerness to obey you.

PURPOSE: Today I'm going to go where you want me to go and do what you want me to do.

Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
