Calling for help
Don’t stay far away, Lord!
My strength comes from you,
so hurry and help. ~ Psalm 22:19 (CEV)
When he (the blind man named Bartimaeus) heard that it was Jesus from Nazareth, he shouted, “Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me!” Many people told the man to stop, but he shouted even louder, “Son of David, have pity on me!” ~ Mark 10:47b-48 (CEV)
Lord, do you ever get tired of us calling out to you? I don't think so. You always seem to respond to calls for help. I admit, though, that sometimes you don't respond in the way that I want you to respond. That actually makes sense. You're God. You can see the whole situation better than I can see it. So thank you for responding appropriately. Help me to stay encouraged even when things do not happen the way that I think they should. And I am going to continue to look to you for help. Amen.
*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul. The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
