Powerful insight
I created the mountains
and the wind.
I let humans know
what I am thinking.
I bring darkness at dawn
and step over hills.
I am the Lord God All-Powerful! ~ Amos 4:13 (CEV)
You know how to interpret the weather signs in the sky, but you don’t know how to interpret the signs of the times! ~ Matthew 16:3b (NLT)
Lord God All-Powerful,
THANKS: I'm grateful for both your power and your patience.
REGRETS: We, including I, pretend to know so much about what is happening in the world. Indeed, we do know a lot more than the people who have gone before us. But we are still so ignorant when it comes to you and your plans. We don't know how to manage the knowledge we've gained. In that sense we are no better off than ignorant people.
INTERCESSION:Since Christ is living in me I am going to ask for insight into how he sees the world. I desire that his perspective on everything would become my perspective.
PURPOSE: And I am going to trust you for more than the weather. I want to grow and develop more insight into what is truly important.
Amen.
*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul. The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
