Kindness

A kind answer soothes angry feelings, but harsh words stir them up. ~ Proverbs 15:1 (CEV)

God’s servants must not be troublemakers. They must be kind to everyone, and they must be good teachers and very patient. Be humble when you correct people who oppose you. ~ 2 Timothy 2:24-25 (CEV)
Lord, thank you for this word encouraging me to be kind. It reminds me of how kind you are -- even to troublemakers. And I'm not always so kind to the people who don't like me. I'm angry when people cause me trouble. So I need your help in order to become a kind, patient. and humble person. That's my goal -- to become a faithful leader with an extremely kind heart. I want to be like Jesus. Amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
