Power and Hope

God stepped in and saved me from certain death. I’m alive again! Once more I see the light! ~ Job 33:28 (MSG)

God will raise us from death by the same power that he used when he raised our Lord to life. ~ 1 Corinthians 6:14 (CEV)
God,

THANKS: Thank you for using your awesome power to benefit people -- including me. The resurrection of Jesus has given me hope and empowers me to face difficulties everyday.

REGRETS: I'm sorry that I get so easily distracted by the power system in the world. Sometimes I want more of that power (to use for good, of course) and sometimes I'm afraid of the power that people have. I worry over who will win the election. I think too much about all the lethal life-sucking power out there.

INTERCESSION: Help me to see how you are already intervening to turn deadly circumstances into life-giving hope.

PURPOSE: No matter what happens I'm going to paint today with hope. I'm not going to dwell on the worldly power struggles -- but on Jesus who broke the chains of death.

Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
