Real holiness
I am the Lord your God. I am holy, and you must be holy too! ~ Leviticus 19:2 (CEV)
Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. ~ Ephesians 4:24 (NLT)
Lord God,
THANKS: You are unique -- special -- different -- holy. We recognize you as such. Thank you for inviting us to share in your holiness.
REGRETS: I confess, though, that I am most comfortable when I can reduce holiness to keeping a bunch of rules that have to do with the appearance of holiness.
INTERCESSION: Free me from that kind of shallow thinking. Help me to live into my new nature so that through transformation I become genuinely holy and righteous.
PURPOSE: I want to add honor to you by thinking and living like you.
Amen.
*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul. The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
