The heart
PENTECOST SUNDAY
I trust in you with all my heart.
Don’t let me wander away from your commands.
~ Psalm 119:10 (NIRV)
It is good that God’s grace makes our hearts strong. ~ Hebrews 13:9 (NIRV)
Gracious God,
THANKS: Thank you for telling us what you expect from us -- for giving us commandments. You don't leave us in the dark about what you want. Yet, at the same time you're generous in your grace -- extending it to us even when we fail to keep those commandments. You are an awesome God.
REGRETS: I regret that I ignore your commands sometimes. I do things I shouldn't do. I fail to do some of the things that you tell me to do. And then I have a hard time forgiving myself -- even though you've forgiven me.
INTERCESSION: Please help me to stay on track. Strengthen my heart with your grace.
PURPOSE: I am going to serve you with all my heart.
Amen.
*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul. The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
