Beauty

The 8th Sunday after Pentecost

You will be a splendid mwarmwar of flowers held up in the Lord’s hand for all to see, regal headgear in the palm of God. ~ Isaiah 62:3 (ABP)

I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. ~ Revelation 21:2 (CEB)

O God, our King! Because you are kind, you make us beautiful -- people of splendor who reflect your royal beauty. There is no other way of explaining how wonderful I am. This life is amazing! I am, however, given to false humility that ends up detracting from your divine glory. I privately and publicly berate myself for failures that you have forgiven and overlooked. And in doing so I make it all about me -- instead of all about you -- the source of the beauty. Turn me around, please. I want to join your beauty parade so that everyone can see that you are graciously recreating the world -- replacing all that is ugly with heavenliness. Amen.
