Fed up!
Up, God! Aren’t you fed up with their empty strutting?
Expose these grand pretensions! ~ Psalm 9:19a (MSG)
So what makes you think God won’t step in and work justice for his chosen people, who continue to cry out for help? Won’t he stick up for them? ~ Luke 18:7a (MSG)
Lord, thank you for the reassuring message. I am so tired of our loud and obnoxious leaders. I'm weary of people getting shot in my neighborhood. I'm sick of women suffering rape and abuse -- disrespected by men. I'm disgusted by the injustices hurled at some groups of people by those who have power. I'm fed up with it all. Intervene on behalf of your people -- especially those who are poor and living on the margins. Start the justice train with me. I know that I should be more assertive when it comes to intervening -- and that's what you've called me to do. But when I get tired I crawl into my cocoon and doze. Please give me the energy and wisdom needed to live out the Kingdom of God here and now. Amen.
*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul. The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
