Comfort

The Lord says, “I have brought all this horrible trouble on these people. But now I will give them all the good things I have promised them. ~ Jeremiah 32:42 (NIRV)

Our hope for you remains firm. We know that you suffer just as we do. In the same way, God comforts you just as he comforts us. ~ 2 Corinthians 1:7 (NIRV)
Compassionate God, you understand suffering better than we. And you could have avoided it. But you put yourself right into the middle of it through your Son, Christ Jesus, who voluntarily suffered for us. Sometimes I'm inclined to think of my suffering as unique. I have my own personal pity party. Help me to focus instead on the comfort that you are extending -- the healing that you are bringing -- the promises that you are fulfilling. I'm not going to let suffering get me down. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2011 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
