Living Water

My people have sinned twice. They have deserted me, even though I am the spring of water that gives life. And they have dug their own wells. But those wells are broken. They can’t hold any water. ~ Jeremiah 2:13 (NIRV)

“Sir,” the woman said, “you don’t even have a bucket, and the well is deep. Where are you going to get this life-giving water? ~ John 4:11 (CEV)
Generous God, you fill our buckets with clean drinking water. And I'm not just talking about the kind of water that is in a river or falls from the sky as rain. That kind of water is wonderful. But you also give us the spiritual water that takes care of our thirst for you. I admit that I don't drink as much water as I should. So, please continue to invite me -- to remind me to drink deeply of the water that Jesus gives. I want to become a physically and spiritually healthy person. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2011 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
