The highest knowledge

The 22nd Sunday after Pentecost

Foolish people say in their hearts, “There is no God.” ~ Psalm 14:1 (NIRV)

Eternal life is to know you, the only true God, and to know Jesus Christ, the one you sent. ~ John 17:3 (CEV)
Lord, you exist. You are the one true God. I have no trouble saying that. But too often I make decisions just as though you don't exist. I decide things based on what feels right or what pleases the people who are important to me. I act as though you are not there. But I am eager to correct that fault in me. I know that I can't change apart from you. Help me to know you even more deeply -- even if it is uncomfortable at times -- even if knowing Christ means that others will disapprove of what I'm doing. The highest and most important knowledge is to know you and your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2011 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
