Freedom from sin

Let us rid ourselves of everything that gets in the way, and of the sin which holds on to us so tightly, and let us run with determination the race that lies before us. ~ Hebrews 12:1b (GNT)
KEY IDEA:
We need to get rid of the sin that holds onto us and which keeps us from running for Jesus at the level he'd like us to compete.
PRAYER:
Lord, thank you for the forgiveness that was given to us through the actions of Christ Jesus.
Help me to release the sins which don't just cling to me but which I also hold onto. I need to be free to run for Jesus. Amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.
