Success
The 3rd Sunday of Advent
Not long before David died, he told Solomon:
My son, I will soon die, as everyone must. But I want you to be strong and brave. Do what the Lord your God commands and follow his teachings. Obey everything written in the Law of Moses. Then you will be a success, no matter what you do or where you go.
~ 1 Kings 2:1-3 (CEV)
We have not stopped praying for you since the first day we heard about you. In fact, we always pray that God will show you everything he wants you to do and that you may have all the wisdom and understanding that his Spirit gives. Then you will live a life that honors the Lord, and you will always please him by doing good deeds. You will come to know God even better. ~ Colossians 1:9-10 (CEV)
KEY IDEA:
Success in life is defined as doing the will of God.
PRAYER:
Gracious Father, I'm grateful because you have provided a way for all your children to experience success. But I am not as successful as I could be. I do follow your law and your wisdom -- sort of. But I am casual about living a life that honors you. Don't give up on me. Keep nudging me along and giving me reasons to trust. I'm going to be successful -- as you define success. Amen.
*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul. The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
