Ask!
The 12th Sunday after Pentecost
All you people: Trust in him at all times!
Pour out your hearts before him!
God is our refuge! ~ Psalm 62:8 (CEB)
This is the confidence that we have in our relationship with God: If we ask for anything in agreement with his will, he listens to us. ~ 1 John 5:14 (CEB)
SUMMARY SENTENCE
Ask away! God is generous and gives whatever we request that is consistent with his agenda.
PRAYER
I am thankful, God, for your generosity. I get frustrated with my asking, though, because I'm sure that I ask for stupid things that are inconsistent with your will. Give me the wisdom to see what I should be requesting and the stamina to continue to turn to you alone for solutions. In retrospect, I'm grateful that you haven't given me everything I've requested. Amen.
*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul. The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
