PURSUITS

The 24th Sunday after Pentecost

MICAH 6:8 (MSG)
But he’s already made it plain how to live, what to do, what God is looking for in men and women.
It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love,
And don’t take yourself too seriously—take God seriously.

2 TIMOTHY 2:22 (NTE)
Run away from the passions of youth. Instead, chase after justice, faith, love and peace; you’ll be in the company of all who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Pursue the well being of your neighbor.

PRAYER
Lord God, your expectations are not complicated. And they feel noble. But I'm not very good at acting justly and lovingly. My self interests are constantly getting in the way. Help me to embrace a humble approach to life -- to resist taking myself so seriously. I'm going to enjoy a simple life with good company. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2011 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
