GROKING GOD

PSALM 63:1, 6 (MSG)
God—you’re my God! I can’t get enough of you!
If I’m sleepless at midnight, I spend the hours in grateful reflection.

1 CORINTHIANS 13:12 (ABP)
All that we can see of God now is a hazy blurred image. But the time is coming when we'll see him face to face and grok* him in the way that he groks us.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
We can look forward to knowing God on a deep level.

PRAYER
God of infinite majesty, how high and exalted above our powers of understanding you must be! And yet I find myself ready to fight with others in defense of my ideas about you. Forgive me, dear Lord. Lead me to the truth that is higher than my meager understanding. Lead me to love, as you love. Amen. (Daily Texts, Ground Up Grace edition)

*To grok is to understand and know someone on such a deep level that it bubbles up in total enjoyment. The word was created by Robert A. Heinlein for his 1961 science fiction novel Stranger in a Strange Land

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
