EXTEND MERCY

NUMBERS 21:7 (CEB)
The people went to Moses and said, “We’ve sinned, for we spoke against the LORD and you. Pray to the LORD so that he will send the snakes away from us.” So Moses prayed for the people.

Be merciful to those who doubt...

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Be eager to extend mercy toward those who have strayed.

PRAYER
God, you love to show mercy to those who will accept it because you love people. I confess that at times I'm on the rigid side and find satisfaction in proclaiming harsh and judgmental words. Help me to be merciful in the same way that you are merciful. I'm going to be especially kind to those who are struggling with doubts about their faith. Amen.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
