LIVE TO HONOR GOD

The Second Sunday in Christmastide

DEUTERONOMY 32:39 (MSG)
Do you see it now? Do you see that I’m the one?
Do you see that there’s no other god beside me?
I bring death and I give life, I wound and I heal—
there is no getting away from or around me!

ROMANS 14:8 (NLT)
If we live, it’s to honor the Lord. And if we die, it’s to honor the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
We live to bring honor to God -- and him alone.

PRAYER
Lord of life, everything rises and falls according to your plan. Nothing is so out of control that it causes you to adjust your will. Thank you for being steady. I confess my fear of uncertainty. I acknowledge that 2022 is full of unknowns and that makes me nervous. Relieve me of my fears and put things in perspective for me so that I can live to honor you. Amen.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
