GET UP

The 5th Sunday in Lent

GENESIS 21:17-18 (CEV)
When God heard the boy crying, the angel of God called out to Hagar from heaven and said, “Hagar, why are you worried? Don't be afraid. I have heard your son crying. Help him up and hold his hand, because I will make him the father of a great nation.”

HEBREWS 12:12-13 (CEV)
Now stand up straight! Stop your knees from shaking and walk a straight path. Then lame people will be healed, instead of getting worse.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Get up and get going.

PRAYER
God, you've called us to get up and get moving in the direction you show us. I acknowledge before you that I'm a slow mover and that at times I drag my feet. I'm afraid that things won't work out in the way that I want them to. Eradicate my fear. Refresh my trust in you. I'm going to get up and walk with Jesus. Amen.

THE LORD'S PRAYER

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
