DEATH DEFEATED

PSALM 89:48 (CEB)
Who lives their life without seeing death?
Who is ever rescued from the grip of the grave?

ROMANS 6:23 (CEV)
Sin pays off with death. But God's gift is eternal life given by Jesus Christ our Lord.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
God generously deals with the inevitable and through Christ we can expect life that eternally transcends death.

PRAYER
Geneourous God, you are a problem solver. Through our quest for autonomy we managed to get ourselves into a death loop, but you intervened. Help me to fully embrace the gift of forgiveness and the new life of Christ Jesus. I'm going to keep on and on, living for and through Christ. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name; your Kingdom come; your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
