LIFE-GIVING

Maundy Thursday

ISAIAH 45:23-24 (NLT)
Every knee will bend to me,
and every tongue will declare allegiance to me.”
The people will declare,“The LORD is the source of all my righteousness and strength.”

JOHN 6:51 (CEV)
Jesus said, "I am that bread from heaven! Everyone who eats it will live forever. My flesh is the life-giving bread I give to the people of this world."

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Embrace Jesus, who gave his life to give us life.

PRAYER
Jesus, you are my righteousness. Today, I feed on your word that declares you are the bread of life given for me for the forgiveness of my sins. Thank you for this day of remembering your presence in us. Humbly I take, eat, and drink of you for strength and peace until we are with you forever. Amen. (Daily Texts, Ground Up Grace edition)

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name; your Kingdom come; your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
