WHEN TO PRAISE GOD

EZRA 3:11 (NRSV)
They sang responsively, praising and giving thanks to the Lord,
"For he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever..."

MARK 14:26 (CEV)
After singing songs of praise, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Praise God in both the good times and the bad.

PRAYER
Glorious God, you are worthy of all praise, in all circumstances, during the dark and light times. We confess that we tend to limit our praise to the times when we're feeling good. It's all so centered on our experience rather than your faithfulness. Help us to break free from our narrow focus so that we're honoring you in both the good times and the bad. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name; your Kingdom come; your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
