GOD'S RESPONSE

PSALM 82:8 (ABP)
God we need you to intervene! Haul the world into your courtroom and hold them accountable for what they've done. You are sovereign over the world so it's all within your jurisdiction.

JOHN 3:17 (MSG)
God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Even though the world is accountable to God his first response to our nonsense is lovingkindness.

PRAYER
Lord of the earth, I do not always see people as you do. Thank you for the truth that you died to save everyone just as you did for me! Your love and regard for the lowliest of souls moves me to treat others as you would. Keep me faithful today to your saving vision for a dying, hurting world. Amen. THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
