GOD'S POWERFUL COMMANDS

The Second Sunday in Lent

PSALM 33:9 (ABP)
Because when GOD spoke it – it happened! Just as he commanded, it was there!

MATTHEW 8:8 (NLT)
But the officer said, "Lord, I am not worthy to have you come into my home. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed."

SUMMARY SENTENCE
God's authority is so great that at his command things happen.

PRAYER
Lord, you are the most powerful authority. When you choose to speak, things happen. Forgive me listening to the commands of other lesser authorities who have warped agendas. Give me the wisdom to properly weigh the words I hear and the courage to reject what doesn't come from you. By faith I know whose commands will win out. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.
