FREED!

JEREMIAH 23:5 (CEV)
Someday I will appoint
   an honest king
   from the family of David,
a king who will be wise
   and rule with justice.

HEBREWS 2:15 (ABP)
Jesus freed those enslaved for their whole lives by the fear of death.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Jesus frees us from our unjust fear-mongering slave masters.

DAILY FODDER
Think of at least one way that fear of death (and its allies) enslaves people. How does Jesus break us free from that kind of enslavement?

PRAYER
Lord Jesus, you have come into the world to free people so that they can partner with you in the re-creation. I confess that it's hard for me to admit that I'm a slave to anything beyond a few little bad habits of minor consequence. That's what I tell myself. So I don't feel very motivated to move forward. Help me to recognize the extent of that which enslaves me and my inability to break free from it all, so that I can join your freedom movement. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
