LIFELINE

PSALM 40:2 (ABP)
God pulled me out of that awful lifeless pit filled with the muck and mire of despair. He then set me on solid ground and gave me a steady arm to hold onto so I could walk on.

1 PETER 3:18-19 (CEV)
Christ died once for our sins.
An innocent person died
     for those who are guilty.
Christ did this
     to bring you to God,
     when his body
     was put to death
     and his spirit
     was made alive.
Christ then preached to the spirits that were being kept in prison.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Christ is the lifeline that God is using to pull us back to life.

DAILY FODDER
Even before his resurrection Christ was busy generating new life for those who were already dead. How does this change the way that you'll celebrate Easter tomorrow?

"I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again..."

(from the Apostles' Creed)

PRAYER
Christ Jesus, it's not Easter, yet, but the victory is already yours. You offer life to all who are dead because of sin. Thank you that despair is losing its grip on us and your lifeline is firmly in hand. We're grateful that you have taken on the dirty task of rescuing us. And I'm warming up my voice to sing "alleluia!" tomorrow. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
