REMEMBER

Maundy Thursday

GENESIS 8:22 (MSG)
For as long as Earth lasts,
planting and harvest, cold and heat,
summer and winter, day and night
will never stop.”

LUKE 22:19-20 (CEV)
Jesus took some bread in his hands and gave thanks for it. He broke the bread and handed it to his apostles. Then he said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Eat this as a way of remembering me!”
After the meal he took another cup of wine in his hands. Then he said, “This is my blood. It is poured out for you, and with it God makes his new agreement.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
As time goes by make sure you remember what Christ has done on your behalf.

DAILY FODDER
Why does Jesus think it is necessary to command a sacramental act as a way to get his followers to remember him? How could they possibly forget? Unpack what it means to "remember."

PRAYER
Jesus, we remember what you did on the night when you shared a special meal with the disciples – the night on which you were betrayed. We remember and we thank you for sacrificing your life so that you could break the back of death and betrayal. Help us to live so much in that moment that it starts to define our lives. I want your new covenant to be written all over my life as a witness to your faithfulness and salvation. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
