FIRE

Pentecost Sunday

ZECHARIAH 2:5 (CEB alt)
I will be a wall of fire around Jerusalem, says the LORD.

ACTS 2:1, 3-4 (CEV)
On the day of Pentecost all the Lord's followers were together in one place... Then they saw what looked like fiery tongues moving in all directions, and a tongue came and settled on each person there. The Holy Spirit took control of everyone, and they began speaking whatever languages the Spirit let them speak.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Just as fire seems to have a mind of its own as it goes to and fro, the Holy Spirit moves in unpredictable ways as he ignites his people.

DAILY FODDER
Is the fire of the Holy Spirit burning fervently in you right now? If not, what can or can't be done about that?

PRAYER
Father God, your Spirit is a fire within me and a wall of protection around me. I am grateful that your Spirit gives me peace, teaches, comforts, guides, and strengthens me. When my inner fire grows dim, reignite passion and zeal in me. Let the warmth of your Spirit in me draw others to you. Amen. (Daily Texts, Ground Up Grace edition)

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2011 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
