UNCONENTIONAL

MICAH 5:2 (MSG)
But you, Bethlehem, David’s country,
the runt of the litter—
From you will come the leader
who will shepherd-rule Israel.
He’ll be no upstart, no pretender.
His family tree is ancient and distinguished.

1 TIMOTHY 3:16 (CEV)
Here is the great mystery of our religion:
   Christ came as a human.
   The Spirit proved
   that he pleased God,
and he was seen by angels.

   Christ was preached
   to the nations.
   People in this world
   put their faith in him,
and he was taken up to glory.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
The coming of Christ the Savior, as unconventional as it was from a human perspective, set us on a fresh trajectory.

DAILY FODDER
In your mind does the mystery surrounding Christ add credibility to his message or detract from it?

PRAYER
Almighty God, it is beyond comprehension that you would become one of us. I'm sorry that I still struggle to wrap my mind around how this could be. Help me to embrace the mystery of who you are and how you do things. I know that through the coming of Jesus the Christ into the world you've set things on a new trajectory and I'm trusting him so I can go with your flow. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2011 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
