YOUR PLACE AT THE TABLE

ISAIAH 65:1 (NLT)
The Lord says,
"I was ready to respond, but no one asked for help.
I was ready to be found, but no one was looking for me."

MATTHEW 19:30 (ABP)
Many of the most prominent people will end up with no status or influence. However, those currently lacking influence will become the most important.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
When the Lord's upside–down kingdom comes in its fulness, a lot of the big shots, those who have neglected looking to God, will find themselves at the back off the line.

DAILY FODDER
How prominent do you think you'll be in God's kingdom? Why do you think that?

PRAYER
God, I'm looking forward to living in your coming kingdom — your new creation. I am especially enthralled with the prediction that humility be valued more than power. I confess that I've spent way too much energy trying to advance in the world's pecking order. Show me how to change the way I operate now so that I'm prepared to participate in what's to come. It's not too late. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2011 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
